The FHA is the Federal Housing Administration, which is a federal agency in the United States Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD); if your financial transaction is an FHA-secured loan, it means it is insured by them. The FHA does not loan funds to borrowers. Rather, it provides lenders with safety through mortgage insurance in case the borrower defaults on his or her loan obligations. The FHA and their loan programs are formed to assist low-to-moderate income consumers by easing credit expectations. Remember that the lending organization working with the the Federal Housing Administration is free to choose which appraisers they work with, different from VA appraisal panel.

Down payments are often lower with an FHA loan despite using conventional market rates. The loan programs that the Federal Housing Administration provides are lifesavers to consumers with less starting income.
